Argentinean artist Liliana Porter works in a variety of media, including photography, painting, film and sculpture. Her sculptures often incorporate figurines or toys, and the artist believes these objects become animated by the viewer as they project an identity onto them, imbuing them with emotions and even a sense history. Porter’s “theatrical vignettes” offer up simultaneously comic and tragic comments on the human condition, seen here in Forced Labor: Weaver (Blue III) where a woman knits a mountainous item that spills off the shelf. Porter is currently based in New York, and her work is represented in national and international public collections such as the Museo del Barrio, New York City; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among numerous others.
